Grooming Info
Groomers operate throughout the week — avoid Saturdays when trail traffic is heaviest and groomer safety is a concern. All groomer operators are unpaid volunteers. Be respectful and thank them when you see them on the trail.
Trail Systems
Sawyer County Alliance Trail System
600+ miles of trails managed by 11 snowmobile and ATV clubs organized under the Sawyer County Snowmobile & ATV Alliance. The system connects to neighboring counties and includes the Tuscobia State Trail (open year-round for snowmobiles). Trails cross multiple land management areas including county forest, national forest, and private property.

Trail 31 — Western Sawyer County
Traverses western Sawyer County north to south through beautiful county forest land and across frozen Lac Courte Oreilles. Excellent trail-side accommodations with multiple trailhead locations and access to other Sawyer County trails.

Tuscobia State Trail
Open year-round for snowmobiles on the abandoned railroad grade from Birchwood to Park Falls. Connects to the Dead Horse Trail system and Flambeau Trail.

Sno-Trails System (South & East Hayward)
175+ miles of trails south and east of Hayward maintained by the Sno-Trails Snowmobile Club. Includes trails near Lac Courte Oreilles, Grindstone Lake, Whitefish Lake, and the Chippewa Flowage.

Rules & Regulations
- All snowmobiles must display Wisconsin State Trail Pass AND state registration sticker
- Wisconsin residents: $30 annual pass through DNR, or $10 with AWSC club membership
- Non-residents: trail pass required — purchase at dnr.wi.gov or sales agents
- Fine for operating without trail pass: $200.50
- ATVs under 900 lbs allowed on groomed snowmobile trails in Sawyer County — be respectful of groomed surface
- UTVs NOT allowed on groomed snowmobile trails
- Snowmobile trails closed to vehicles over 900 lbs once groomed
- Trail 31 from Trail 10 to Co. F — closed October 15 through December 15
- County Forest trails and roads closed to ATVs April 1 through May 15
- Non-resident ATV trail pass required — purchase at dnr.wi.gov
- Stay on marked trails — many cross private property
